How it works
An Immersive Experience Mixing Language Practice and Tourism in NYC.
English Outdoors (EO) is an original concept combining English & Tourism into one unique experience. English Outdoors utilizes “Public Space” and excursions across the city to help YOU improve your English fluency while exploring all that NYC has to offer.
Is English Outdoors Right for Me?
At English Outdoors, we specialize in creating immersive experiences that combine language practice with the vibrant culture of New York City. Our English & NYC Discovery experiences are ideal for free-spirited, independent, and adventurous travelers who are looking for a unique combination of English and tourism. Our morning English sessions in New York take place in indoor and outdoor locations all over the city, allowing you to practice your English while making the most of New York and enjoying the best views in the city.

All locations have been carefully selected based on comfort and accessibility and vary between outdoor and indoor locations to allow for all types of weather. There is no better way to combine English and NYC tourism!
Focus on Fluency
What is Fluency?
Fluency is the ability to speak smoothly, confidently, and without unnecessary pauses or hesitations, even if some mistakes occur. This is opposed to accuracy which is the correctness and precision of language use, encompassing proper grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
At English Outdoors, we prioritize fluency over accuracy. While in NYC, we want you to speak as much as possible, build confidence, and speak English more like a native! Think of it this way: we never question a native speaker’s ability to speak fluently, and it is NOT because they speak 100% accurately. It’s because they speak confidently and fluidly, skills that are just as important to learn as grammar and vocabulary.
We don't ignore accuracy all together. Although we primarily focus on speaking and fluency practice, our Language Guides incorporate error correction and tailored language practice every week to help you see noticeable improvement even after just 1 week.
How do mixed levels work?
In short, the English sessions centers around level-appropriate topics rather than specific level-appropriate grammar points. We require a level test prior to your arrival to ensure we match you with the right group.
Groups are divided into 3 main levels:
High (Upper-Intermediate – Advanced),
Mid (Pre-Intermediate – Intermediate) and
Low (Beginner to Elementary) - note: private 1-to-1 sessions only for Low level.
In order to focus on fluency, it’s more important that the groups have similar levels of overall comprehension and communication. In these areas, the combined levels are very similar.
Benefits of a fluency-focused program (even after just 1 week!)
Gain confidence to speak in a wide range of situations
Speak more fluidly and naturally
Be easier to understand
Be more interested and engaged in content-driven instruction
Practice English in real life scenarios during EO’s Discovery Days
Receive tailored language training from the teacher (error correction)
Not rely on obscurely assigned grammar points
See noticeable progress in their speaking abilities
Small Group Sizes
Our group sizes have an average of 5-6 people. With small groups, you’ll get plenty of opportunities to practice your English while discussing topics and themes related to NYC. Additionally, you will be on the move and exploring the city with EO’s Discovery Days.
Discovery Days give you a fully immersive experience by helping to build fluency and confidence while exploring both iconic New York spots and some of the city’s best hidden gems. You will discover new neighborhoods, visit famous New York City museums and landmarks, discuss themes related to art, immigration, the city’s history, and more. This hands-on approach to your English & Tourism vacation is the best way to improve your fluency while exploring NYC!
Sustainable Approach
By choosing English Outdoors, you can also make a positive impact on the environment, taking advantage of natural sunlight and airflow rather than being inside and using artificial light and AC! This makes our English & NYC Discovery Experience the most sustainable, eco-wise choice for you.

Where our EO classes take place
Outdoor Locations
There are many great parks in New York City and we meet in many of them. In famous large parks such as Central Park in famous city center parks such as Bryant Park, and Madison Square Park, and in smaller parks that are just off the beaten track, like Cobble Hill Park.
We also practice our English in new, more industrially chic parks, like Gansevoort Peninsula on the Hudson River Park and Domino Park, overlooking the East river. And there are sessions that take place in cool urban locations. For example, by the waterfront in Dumbo.
Indoor Locations
Our indoor locations are a real mix of places that again allow our participants to get a real feel for the parts of the city.
Essex Market on the Lower East Side is a bustling famous old food market which has had a modern facelift. Brookfield Place is an ultra modern shopping mall in a great location in Battery Park in Lower Manhattan. Industry City in Brooklyn shows what you can do when you transform old industrial factories into shops, restaurants and galleries for the 21st century.
We have also scoured the city for the best public atriums, of which there are many in NYC. A public atrium is an indoor or outdoors public open space that includes seating, landscaping and artwork. Our chosen few include Park Avenue Plaza located right off 5th avenue, and close to St Patrick’s Cathedral, 550 Madison Avenue, which is also just off 5th avenue in Midtown, and 180 Maiden Lane in the financial district of Lower Manhattan.
How does English Outdoors work?
Every Friday, prior to the start of the week, an email is sent outlining the EO session locations for the upcoming week. This schedule considers previous session locations, upcoming weather forecasts, and any external events that may affect session locations. Please note that schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions. In such cases, notifications will be sent via email and/or WhatsApp.
